2024 Programs

The guild has two groups; both meet on the second Thursday of each month at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church.  See our programs below for meeting activities. HTLC does not currently require masks for attendees. Please be considerate of others who choose to wear their masks.

The "Day Group" meets at 10:00 AM in the old Fellowship Hall and the "Night Group" meets at 6:30 PM in Conference Room C.

Combined meetings are held in June and December at 6pm in the Fellowship Hall.

The Guild Board meets the first Thursday of every month at 6:00pm by Zoom.

In the event of inclement weather, the CVQG will follow the Catawba County School schedule.  If schools are closed or delayed, both meetings will be cancelled.

Visitors are always welcome to attend and new members may join any time during the year.

• January 11:  Accessing the Members Directory on the Members Only Webpage of the CVQG Website and "My Favorite Quilt", an extended show and tell when members can tell about their favorite quilt of all time made by them or someone else.
• February 8: Beth Bailey presents Picture Quilts: Taking her cue from traditional quilting, Beth uses batik and hand-dyed fabrics which are then cut, composed, adhered, stitched, ironed, matted and framed to create her whimsical and impressionistic finished pieces. Each of Beth’s fiber pieces is original in design and one-of-a-kind. Follow-up Workshop on 11 February 2024.
• March 14: Pat Carson presents "Color Happy" on the use of color in quilting.
• April 11: Cindi Williamson, Mary Busy, Catherine Casewell, and Lisa Echerd present Round Robin activities for finishing quilts including hanging sleeves, show binding, facing a quilt, and flange binding.
• May 9: Joann Nichols, an AQS Grand Prize Winner, presents Hand Applique and Quilting Trunk Show.
• June 6: **This is scheduled for the first Thursday of the month due to a schedule conflict with the church** Joint Meeting @ 6pm. Covered Dish and Challenge.
• July 11: Susan McRae, owner of 'Oh Susannah' Yarn Shop, presents Fabric Manipulation Fiber Reactive Dying and Sashiko. Susan  will show us her latest works highlighting indigo dyeing, fiber reactive dyes and shashiko. Shashiko is the traditional Japanese embroidery style which dates back to the Edo period (1615 – 1868).  Follow-up workshop on 20 July 2024.
• August 8: CANCELLED DUE TO WEATHER Debbie Swartzel presents English Paper Piecing. Hands-on English Paper Piecing program--bring your scraps, scissors, and a needle!
• September 12:  Gigi Miller presents the making of T-Shirt Quilts. Follow-up workshop on 14 Sep 2024.
• October 10: Barbara Mankhe presents "The Magic Triangle".  Barbara will discuss the amazing half-square triangle, how to make a lot easily and their versatility. 
• November 14: Reba Brewer presents "Making New From Old".  Reba is famous in these parts for taking seemingly worthless scraps, UFOs and “destroyed” quilts and making beautiful, restored pieces with them. Her program will be a trunk show of her favorite pieces and her workshop will be a mix of demo and hands on to rethink, reframe, and re-create beauty from the “leftovers”. Follow-up workshop on 16 Nov 2024.
• December 12: Joint Meeting @ 6pm - Covered Dish and election of officers.
